Deputy President William Ruto now says he is ready to work with like-minded leaders ahead of the next general election.

In a shift from his earlier position that UDA would walk alone and not enter into any coalition with other parties, Ruto seems to have softened his stance.

He also launched a scathing attack on Jubilee for backing ODM leader Raila Odinga, "despite the high potential within the party".

Ruto said Jubilee's decision to back Raila is unfair to millions of people who voted them into office in 2012 and 2017.

“Over eight million people voted Jubilee into office and some people have decided to back Raila against the wishes of the voters. This is very wrong,” he said.

Addressing rallies in Gilgil, Naivasha, Kinungi and Fly Over, Ruto expressed his confidence that UDA would form the next government and address the challenges facing the nation.

“We as UDA are ready to work with other leaders who have the same vision of empowering millions of youths who are jobless,” he said.

He also revisited the issue of the failed referendum, noting that the exercise was meant to create seats for some few individuals.

“It’s sickening that as some millions of people sleep hungry, a clique is planning on how they can come up with seats for their own benefit.”

Ruto noted that the government’s plan to turn Naivasha into an industrial town had materialised with the construction of the standard gauge railway and the setting up of an industrial park.

“The Rironi-Mau Summit expressway will be a game-changer and plans are at an advanced stage to get fluoride-free water for people of Naivasha from Nyandarua county,” he said.

Politicians in his entourage included former Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu, who lashed out at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for being used to fight political wars.

He questioned why the suspects in the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority Covid equipment scandal and the Ruaraka land deal had not been arrested months after it emerged that cash was lost in the two cases.

“The EACC and the DCI are being used to fight governors perceived to be close to Ruto and the fight against graft has been turned into a political war,” he said.
