An elderly couple was bludgeoned to death in Kinangop, Nyandarua county.

They were found in their house in Magumu, off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway by their visiting son on Monday morning.

The grandmother, 70, was found dead, while her husband, 74, sustained serious head injuries and succumbed at the Kijabe Mission Hospital.

Police retrieved a blood soaked piece of wood believed to have been the murder weapon.

Nyandarua North police chief Francis Mwangi said no suspect had been arrested though they are following some leads.

“This is not just a normal robbery, there is another motive. It’s only a matter of time before we catch up with those involved,” he said.

The couple's son, Simon Kamau found them lying in a pool of blood in their house and informed neighbours.

“We are not sure what really transpired, as the couple was loved by residents. However, initial investigations show the attackers gained entrance without force,” he said.

Meanwhile, two spectators of the World Rally Championship died while on their way back to Nairobi on Sunday evening.

The two died on the spot after their motorbike was hit by a speeding car along Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road, forcing them to crash by the roadside.

The man in his 30's and his pillion passenger, 25, were from Naivasha when the accident happened near High Peak Academy.

Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru said an investigation to establish the hit and run vehicle is ongoing.

He said the pair, who were wearing helmets, were flung onto the road and seemed to have sustained serious injuries.

“We had a hit and run accident on Sunday evening where a man and a lady heading to Nairobi from Naivasha lost their lives,” Waweru said.

Earlier, thousands of rally fans were left stranded on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway and on the Moi South Lake Road as they left Naivasha.
