• Over 600,000 Kenyans have failed to take up the government offer of free Covid booster shots.
• The risk from Covid when you are unvaccinated is much greater than any risk from vaccination side effects
Over 900,000 Kenyans are eligible for booster shots but only 275,000 have taken up the offer from the Ministry of Health.
Around the world, the rates of Covid infection have fallen dramatically due to widespread vaccination, public health controls, and increasing immunity after infection.
But there is still a high risk from Covid, especially as the effect of vaccinations starts to wear off after a year or so. That's why governments want their citizens to get booster shots.
In Kenya, most booster shots will be Pfizer following two AstraZeneca.
There is still a small chance of catching Covid after a booster shot, but the chances of being hospitalised are minimal. There may be some mild flu symptoms after the booster shot but they will soon pass.
Remember, the risk of being unvaccinated is much greater than the risk of any side effects from being vaccinated.
Moreover, if you catch Covid and are asymptomatic, you can still infect other people who may get very sick.
So the best thing to do, both for yourself and for others, is to go and get your booster shot, even if you are already double-vaccinated.
