Former minister Yulia Svyrydenko has been appointed the new prime minister of Ukraine in the latest government reorganisation by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Her appointment was confirmed by the Ukrainian parliament on Thursday.
She previously served as deputy PM and minister for economic development.
Yulia succeeds Denys Shmyhal, who will now be in charge of the Ministry of Defence.
Speaking after the appointment, Yulia said it is a great honour for her to lead the government of Ukraine.
She insisted that the goal of the Ukrainian government is to work towards being dependent on its own social, economic, and military foundations.
The PM called for swift but tangible actions in the next six months, stating that war leaves no room for delay.
“It is a great honour for me to lead the Government of Ukraine today. Our government sets its course toward a Ukraine that stands firm on its own foundations — military, economic, and social. My key goal is real, positive results that every Ukrainian will feel in daily life.
“War leaves no room for delay. We must act swiftly and decisively. Our priorities for the first six months are clear: reliable supply for the army, expansion of domestic weapons production, and boosting the technological strength of our defense forces. This same urgency must apply to the economy, as we make every effort to support Ukrainian entrepreneurs,” Yulia said.
She reiterated that under her leadership focus will be numbers and real results not political loyalties.
Yulia thanked President Zelensky trusting her to get the job done and her predecessor Shmyhal.
“I am grateful to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his trust. Grateful to the Parliament for its support. Grateful to Denys Shmyhal and his team for their service. We continue — for victory, for recovery, for Ukraine.”
