President William Ruto has appointed former Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa as the chairperson of the Gender and Equality Commission.
In a gazette notice dated December 5, the President said the appointment is in exercise of powers confered by Article 250(2) of the constitution.
Jaldesa succeeds Dr Joyce Mutinda at the gender commission following the lapse of her tenure of service.
Ruto also appointed Michael Nzomo as a member of the commission.
Jaldesa previously served as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) tourism, wildlife, and heritage under the Jubilee administration way before the courts declared the positions null and void.
Established by the National Gender and Equality Commission Act, 2011, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) focuses on Special Interest Groups, which include women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), children, the older members of society, minorities and marginalised groups.
The commission draws its mandate from Section 8 of the National Gender and Equality Commission Act 2011.
The President also appointed Charles Orinda Dulo as chairperson of the Commission on Administrative Justice, popular as the Ombudsman.
The President said the appointment is in line with provisions of Section 11(9) of the Commission on Administrative Justice Act.
