Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has suggested that Kenya Kwanza MPs who will vote against the proposed Finance Bill 2023 should face disciplinary actions.

Cherargei said one cannot play opposition politics in a government party.

"I agree with President William Ruto. Furthermore, any Kenya Kwanza MP who shall vote against the Finance Bill 2023 should face the full force of party disciplinary mechanisms," he said.

"Party position is supreme in any democracy."

Cherargei has been vocal over the proposed bill, which is already at the National Assembly awaiting the MPs' decision.

He is on record saying that not even a comma will be amended in the proposed Finance Bill 2023.

His sentiments come a day after the President said he is waiting to see the MPs who will vote against the bill.

"I am waiting for the Members of Parliament who will go and vote against the employment of these young people, against housing that would give these people the chance to own a house with five per cent mortgage," he said on Sunday.

Ruto also backed the proposal for an open ballot system during the voting for the Finance Bill 2023.

He said the lawmakers had fewer mortgages because of the tax paid by the public.

Ruto called upon the Kenya Kwanza legislators to pass it while the opposition leader Raila Odinga has urged Azimio MPs to reject it.

The Bill proposes, among others, that employees contribute three per cent towards the Housing Fund Levy.

This, Ruto said, is not a tax but a contribution and saving scheme towards the affordable housing project.

He also said the contribution is mandatory.
