Political analyst Mark Bichachi has called out political leaders urging retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to stay away from politics.

Bichachi said becoming an ex-president does not deny Uhuru his right to belong to a political party.

"Becoming an ex-president does not rob you of your political rights. Uhuru Kenyatta is a hero of this country. He has the right to have followers and lead a party," he said.

The analyst added that Uhuru has a right to argue with nominated MP Sabina Chege on matters of Jubilee party leadership.

"This idea that Uhuru Kenyatta should stop being political is nonsensical, he has chosen to continue to lead Jubilee, let him do so," Bichachi said.

"Let's be serious as a country."

His statement comes amid power struggles in the Jubilee, where the members are divided following the announcement that Sabina Chege has replaced Uhuru in the party leadership.

Chege said that the former head of state was legally removed from office as the party leader.

“Nobody chased Uhuru Kenyatta from the Jubilee party, we followed the law to remove him,” she said.

On Sunday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua asked Uhuru to take a break from politics.

"Most of us, especially from this region, get embarrassed by our leader, who we respect and support. We urge him to consider taking a break, just as Archbishop has done and other leaders, he should go and rest and allow other people an opportunity," he said.

"We want to dignify that office because it's a higher office."
