President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance party is planning an aggressive popularisation campaign in Northern Kenya and the Coast region.

National Vice-chairperson Hassan Omar said the ruling party will in the coming weeks unveil a massive grassroots activation campaign in the two regions.

The party is determined to shore up its gains and also consolidate support in the two key areas as it plots to retain power in 2027 polls.

The announcement comes as two by-elections are expected in Magarini and Banisa constituencies once the reconstitution of the electoral commission is done.

"We shall target pastoralist and marginalised regions in our next campaign to popularise the party," he said.

The party official met Defence cabinet secretary Aden Duale on Sunday to strategise on the party's latest campaign to consolidate its support.

"As Vice Chairman of UDA, we also committed to elaborate the government's development agenda in these areas and beyond to better the public's understanding and support for the programmes," he said.

Duale is seen as the political kingpin of the pastoralist nation having served for years as chairperson of the Pastoralist Parliamentary Group.

On Saturday, Omar met all UDA coordinators across Mombasa County in what was seen as a strategy to lay the ground for the party's expected mass popularisation campaign.

"I commend the United Democratic Alliance (@UDAKenya) Mombasa County coordinators who have organised themselves into a socio-economic organisation, 'Unity Of Purpose' to pursue joint strategies towards economic empowerment by venturing into business," Omar said.

The East African Legislative Assembly member is leading the UDA campaigns as a key party pillar with chairperson Cecily Mbarire usually engaged as Embu governor.

It is not clear when the UDA popularisation campaigns in Northern Kenya will take off but leaders are already laying the ground.

In the 2022 general elections, opposition leader Raila Odinga dwarfed UDA in most of the counties in the pastoralist region as well as the Coast region.
