College accountant robbed over Sh400,000 after bank withdrawal in Bungoma

No arrest or recovery had been made so far

Police are investigating an incident where an accountant at the technical training institute was robbed of more than Sh400,000 moments after she withdrew the cash from a bank in Bungoma Town.

The accountant told police she had gone to a local bank and withdrew Sh504,000 on May 18 at about midday.

She was with an instructor at the college’s driving school at the time of the incident.

According to the woman, she removed Sh56,000 and sent the same to the institute principal before they started their journey back to the school.

On reaching the Romina area, they were blocked by a white salon car with five occupants on board.

According to the victims, four of the attackers were dressed in traffic police uniforms while the driver was dressed in civilian.

Two of the suspected officers alighted holding a pocket phone and handcuffs informing them that they were looking for a woman reported to be transporting bhang.

According to the victims, the occupants then got hold of her handbag containing cash Sh446,861 her ID card and bank slips and their ignition keys before they went to their car.

Upon following them, she was shown an AK47 rifle before they sped off with the money. The victims jumped onto a bodaboda to pursue the gang in vain.

Police said they are investigating the incident and no arrest or recovery had been made so far.

The team investigating the incident claimed that the attackers could be police officers or conmen posing as cops.

Such incidents have been reported in the area and are pending under probe.

Elsewhere police are investigating an incident where suspected thieves went into the Murangá County’s director of agriculture offices and stole property.

Managers at the offices told police they had securely locked the doors on May 17 and left for the day.

When they came back the following day they found the doors still locked but upon opening four CPUs, four monitors from the director’s office and one CPU with a monitor from the planning department were missing.

Police said they are investigating the incident.
