Police are investigating the suspected drowning of a boy aged six in Nairobi River.

The body was recovered in Mwiki on May 14 evening by residents who suspected he was swept downstream.

Police said the deceased was still in a school uniform at the time the body was found.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they suspect the victim drowned as he crossed the raging waters.

He said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Bungei said they want to understand when the boy drowned given he was dressed in uniform on a Sunday, which was unusual.

“Unless he drowned on the same day and was in uniform we find it unusual. He might have died days earlier and the body swept to the scene,” he said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Parts of Nairobi have been experiencing heavy rains that left the river swollen.

In Kangemi, a decomposing body of a child aged about five months was found near a car wash area.

Police said they were called and informed of the discovery of the body before they picked it to the mortuary.

The body seemed to have been at the scene for up to three days before it was found on Sunday afternoon.

An investigation to identify the boy and establish the cause of death is ongoing, police said.

Meanwhile, the body of a man was found with visible injuries in the Dandora area, Nairobi.

The body was found next to the railway line by locals who alerted police.

The body was moved to the city mortuary awaiting autopsy and identification.

And in Kathiani, a Ugandan national aged 34 drowned in an artificial dam in an accident.

Police said the incident happened in Kwituta village in Kinyau sub location where one Simon Wandeka slipped into an artificial dam and drowned.

The victim was irrigating a farm where he and two others worked when he drowned.

Police arrived at the scene and moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy.
