I'm ready to relocate prison for Kisii town expansion – Ruto

Says he will implement the plan once county leadership gives alternative land.

President William Ruto in his continuous quest to improve the state of small towns in the country has said he is ready to relocate Kisii prison. 

Speaking on Friday during the homecoming ceremony of Education CS Ezekiel Machogu in Kisii county, Ruto said the expansion of the town is dependent on the land that will be availed by leaders to build prison. 

"Town yenu imesongamana sana, hamna mahali ya kupanua hiyo town. Nimeambia viongozi yenu niko tayari kuwapea shamba ya Prison, mkinipa shamba kule mashinani ya kurelocate the prison, niko tayari." 

(Your town is so congested, there's no room for expansion. I have spoken to the leaders and if given alternative land, I'm ready to relocate the prison)

The President said he connected Kisii Governor Simba Arati with relevant individuals who will be in the county tomorrow for further planning. 

"The team will have a meeting with the governor on Saturday so that relocation plans can commence immediately," he said. 

The Kisii prison is within Kisii town. Plans to expand the town to enable it accommodate more shops, banks and other buildings are underway.

Ruto said the move will increase the rate of employment in Kisii County and reduce crime rate. 

"Unless we have a concrete plan of our young people, we will risk their future," he said.

The President added that his administration is ready to deliver on its manifesto by provide enough food, constructing dams and improving the economy. 

"With the help of the elected leaders, we will work together to deliver what we promised the people of Kenya," Ruto said.
