The Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) has asked Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to redeploy a team General Service Unit (GSU) officers to Galana – Kulalu Ranch in Kilifi.
This is in a bid to stop invaders threatening its existence.
This comes amid destruction threats from neighboring communities and their leaders some of who are sub-diving land for use.
ADC Managing Director Mohamed Bulle in a letter dated March 1, 2023, to Kindiki said they had received the directive from president William Ruto to have the boundaries of the ranch fenced with clear beacons to prevent illegal subdivision and settlements.
That is part of the reasons they want a team of GSU which was initially stationed there but later removed for unknown reasons be returned to enhance the exercise.
ADC is the registered owner of Galana-Kulalu Ranch, which traverses Kilifi and Tana River Counties.
The Corporation has been carrying out beef ranching production and also conservation.
The Ranch also is the host to the Galana Food Security Project managed by National Irrigation Authority.
In the letter, Bulle revealed that Kilifi County Commissioner Geoffrey Tanui withdrew the GSU officers who resided within the ranch from manning it and instead, he gave security cover to the government staff and machinery on the ground.
“The Corporation hosts a General Service Unit Camp inside the Ranch. This camp has truly helped the Corporation in dealing with all security challenges like poaching, charcoal burning, encroachment, illegal grazing and many more,” said the letter.
As the Corporation continues to mark its boundaries as directed, it has encountered numerous threats from the neighboring communities and their leaders, the letter added.
It said the national government administration personnel is not offering much help.
“To this end, we write to humbly request your intervention and help in terms of deployment of security personnel to protect so that the exercise can be completed expeditiously.”
“We would appreciate it if the GSU officers in the camp are authorised to continue providing much needed security services during the exercise,” the letter read.
