Journalist, CEO and co-founder of the Africa Uncensored John-Allan Namu has joined the Reuters Institute Advisory Board.

Through its website, Reuters Institute said the appointment will help to further the board's role in creating a network between the Institute and major organisations in the world of journalism.

"They will provide valuable guidance and suggestions for our activities," the statement read.

The Institute described Namu as a journalist who focuses mostly on public interest investigative and in-depth journalism.

"John-Allan’s journalism career spans almost 20 years, most of which has been focused on producing investigative documentaries exposing Kenya's rich and powerful," the statement read.

Namu was appointed alongside other two journalists from Venezuela and Pakistan.

While announcing the appointment, Namu said he was honoured to be joining the institute's board.

"I am very excited for the opportunity to learn and contribute to thought leadership in journalism!" he tweeted.

In November 2019, Namu bagged a TV deal with Maisha Magic to produce a crime show.

Tim Okwaro, Director for East & Southern Africa Channels, said during a media showcase in Johannesburg that the move to incorporate Namu’s content is new.

“We have linked up with John Allan Namu, who is a prolific investigative journalist in Kenya,” Okwaro said.

“We are basically telling human interest stories that impact society. It is exciting for us because it is a new space, we have done a lot of entertainment but now we want to see how this space grows.”
