Kiambu county government has announced the gazettement of seven more municipalities bringing the total number of municipalities to 13, to enhance service delivery.

Kiambu had six municipalities which were created by former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government in 2018.

They include Kiambu, Limuru, Thika, Ruiru, Kikuyu and Karuri.

The newly created municipalities include Juja, Kabete, Lari, Kahawa Sukari, Githunguri, and Gatundu South which will be combined with Gatundu North.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi said the Juja subcounty is one of the beneficiaries of the upgrade.

“My administration has gazetted seven new municipalities, with Juja being one of them, and this will see the area begin to receive Sh400 million annually for urban development,” Wamatangi said.

He said the county has received Sh5 billion from the national government to build 20 markets across the county.

The governor said Juja will benefit from the construction of the Witeithie market at Sh50 million.

He said in collaboration with the national government, they will embark on water reticulation for the residents.

Kiamwangi MCA Kung’u Smart said that the elevation of Gatundu South into a municipality will bring a lot of benefits.

He said that the money released by the government helps regions grow and residents should continue supporting the government.

“Failure to support the government will derail service delivery," he said.

He praised Wamatangi for the continuous opening of interior rural areas through the creation of feeder roads and making the accessible.

Murera MCA Moses Ngatha said Juja's elevation to a municipality will help the region grow.

He said the county government is ready to set a positive image for other counties saying leaders have agreed to work together for the benefit of the people who elected them into office.

“Kiambu is set to achieve greatness if we continue supporting each other and working in unity and respect,” Ngatha said.
