Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi on Wednesday decried the increased sales of county government drugs in private clinics.

He said the move is led by a clique of cartels working with health practitioners.

He urged members of the public to be watchful and report the wrongdoers to the authority for action to be taken against them.

Wamatangi said this when he joined interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki during the official opening of the Cianda Assistant County Commissioner's office in Kiambaa Sub-County.

He said that his administration has launched a vicious war against those involved noting that the latest consignment of drugs that he recently launched was stolen.

“Recently, I supplied drugs in our hospitals and to my surprise, they were stolen by a section of health practitioners and were sold in private clinics, not everyone is bad but we have those stealing and they will have to resign or stop the habit," he said.

The governor added that his administration has heavily invested in health care and scaled up its work on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) to make sure the county gets the best medical services.

He emphasized that the county has put in place an inspection to nab those stealing drugs from public hospitals for sale in private facilities.

The governor further lamented the increased sale of illicit alcohol and drugs in Kiambu County.

He said the national government and county administration will partner, with a multi-agency in tackling the sale of illicit alcohol and drugs which has continued to wreak havoc in the county.

“The sale of illicit alcohol in Kiambu has multiplied and I’m humbly requesting the national government to help us to tackle the problem,” Wamatangi said.

Interior cabinet secretary Kithure Kindiki expressed the government's effort to work with County governments.

Kindiki said that the government will not spare anyone who is derailing government efforts in delivering service to the people.

He urged County security administrations to work with the governors to ensure proper service delivery.

“I would like security agencies to conduct their services well and ensure law and order are followed accordingly,” Kindiki said.

The CS further agreed to Wamatangi's request to have the county security committee work together with the county government in enforcing compliance with building approvals.

Kiambaa MP Njuguna Wanjiku echoed Wamatangi's plea to help in the fight against drugs.

He urged the government to deregister all the clubs in Kiambaa and issue new licenses after vetting.

Others who were present include MCAs Hon. Joseph Koigi (Cianda), Hon. Peter Wainaina aka Boxer (Karuri), Hon. Kenneth Kamau (Muchatha) and Hon. Tabitha Wangui (nominated).
