Kakamega had highest number of KCSE candidates above 22 years

Kakamega County had the highest number of students who sat 2022 KCSE with 22 years and above.

According to data from the Ministry of education, 4594 students aged 22 and above sat KCSE in Kakamega County.

"The total number of students who sat KCSE while at the age of 22 and above is 66,010, reflecting 7.46 per cent of the candidates," the report reads.

Other counties which had similar high figures are Kilifi(4054), Bungoma(3237), Garissa(2957), Turkana(2887), Busia(2619) and Nandi(2455.)

The report also said a total of 12,710 learners were 16 years and below.

"This reflects 1.4 percent of the total number of 2022 KCSE students," the report reads.

Bungoma County was leading with 1226 students, followed by Kisii(707), Homa Bay(544), Kakamega(542), Kericho(525) and Bomet(506).

The number of candidates with mean grade D+ and above in the 2022 KCSE Examination is 522,588 (59.14%) compared with 442,251 (53.29%) in 2021," the CS said.

Candidates who scored D plus were 135,021, those who got D plain were 155,480 and 167,758 scored D minus.

A total of 190 candidates with special needs scored an overall grade C plus and above in 2022 KCSE exam.

One candidate got an A plain, nine students got A minus, 18 got B plus, 33 got B plain, 48 got B minus and 81 scored C plus.

Some 218 special needs students who sat the exam got grade E, 639 got D minus, 486 scored D plain and 281 students scored D minus.

The results show that 132 students in the special needs category got 132 marks and 180 scored C minus.
