Assistant chief charged with receiving Sh14,000 bribe

It's alleged that he committed the offence being a person employed by the government

An assistant chief has been charged with receiving a bribe of Sh14,000 to facilitate the lifting of restrictions placed on a parcel of land in Ngong.

Raphael Gichuru, the lower Matasia administrator was accused of allegedly demanding and receiving money from Benson Waweru in 2021.

Gichuru is accused of requesting for a bribe of Sh 15,000 from Waweru on December 3, 2021, at the lower Matasia location within Ngong in Kajiado County.

The charge alleged that he received the bribe so that he could write a letter to the lands registrar in Ngong, requesting him to lift a restriction order placed on the land.

It is alleged that he committed the offence being a person employed by the government at the Ministry of Interior.

He was further charged with receiving a bribe of Sh14,000 from Waweru on December 3, 2021, at Matasia shopping centre.

The money was said to draft a letter to the lands ministry in favour to lift the restricted conditions.

He denied the charges before anti-corruption magistrate Thomas Nzioki and pleaded for lenient bond terms.

He also asked the prosecution to supply him with witness statements.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000. The case will be mentioned after two weeks.
