The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and Amnesty Kenya have condemned the murder of model and LGBTQ activist Edwin Chiloba.
Amnesty has demanded speedy investigations of Chiloba's killing saying everyone has a right to dignity.
"No human life is worth less than another. Everyone has a right to dignity, respect and protection under Article 26 of the Constitution. We demand speedy investigations into the brutal murder of Edwin Chiloba, an #LGBTQ+ Activist," it said.
Through a statement, KHRC said the killing of Chiloba was reprehensible and unjust, saying that the model was a victim of another disgusting act of homophobic violence.
"This is a frightening crime but it is becoming common in Kenya with the recent tide in reports of threats, assault and killings of LGBTQ+ persons fueled by a culture of homophobia," the statement read.
The human rights agency also wants the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to take up the investigations into the murder and the perpetrator to be prosecuted.
"We also call on activists, the media and members of the public to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and call out the murder for what it is, a hate crime," the lobby said.
Chiloba was found dead and his body was stashed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road, in Kapsaret, Uasin Gishu.
Police said initial reports indicate a numberless vehicle was seen dropping the metal box in the area by a boda boda rider who happened to be driving by the area when it happened.
The matter was reported to police officers who were manning a nearby roadblock. The officers abandoned their post and rushed to the scene.
Upon opening the box, a decomposing body of a man dressed in a woman's clothes was found inside.
It was later established that the deceased was Eldoret-based fashion designer Chiloba.
The body was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital awaiting post-mortem to establish the cause of death as investigations begin.
