Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Machakos and Meru counties have the highest number of subscribers of the Hustler fund, data released by Cooperatives and MSMEs CS Simon Chelugui shows.

Nairobi accounts for the lion's share of the Sh9.5 billion released as of December 19 where a total of Sh1.14 billion has been disbursed to 1.4 million subscribers.

It is followed by Kiambu with Sh651 million which has 812,127 borrowers.

Some 594,399 in Nakuru have received Sh454 million while in Machakos with 483,707 subscribers, some Sh354 million has been released.

Meru has seen 449,095 users receive Sh320 million.

On the other hand, Lamu, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu and Wajir are ranked at the bottom.

The CS has, however, expressed satisfaction the fund has continued to attract more Kenyans to the digital platform even as others continue to repay.

"I am encouraged that more Kenyans have taken this fund positively," he said.

"If the savings is progressed thus we are able to clock Sh32 billion in two years."

On age distribution, CS Chelugui stated that those between 18-29 years are 33 per cent, 30-39 (30 per cent), 40-49 (19 per cent),50-59 (10 per cent) and 60-69 (five per cent).

Borrowers over 69 years old are only at two per cent.

On gender, 57 per cent are men while women account for 43 per cent.
