Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has criticised Parliament over the move to set a date to discuss the removal of the four IEBC commissioners.
Junet termed the move as an attempt to subvert the constitution and Parliamentary rules.
"This is fake and an attempt to subvert the constitution and the standing orders of the National Assembly. Never resolved in the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee," Junet said in a tweet on Monday.
This comes after four petitions were filed in Parliament for the removal of IEBC vice chairperson Juliana Cherera and her counterparts Justus Nyang'aya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit.
The four commissioners disagreed with chairman Wafula Chebukati over the August 9 presidential vote tallying and final results.
The allegations dismissed by Chebukati and two other IEBC commissioners formed some of the grounds upon which Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua challenged President William Ruto’s election at the Supreme Court.
The National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee, chaired by Tharaka MP Gitonga Murugara, has scheduled hearings with the four petitioners pushing for the removal of Cherera and the three starting Thursday.
"It is notified for the information of the general public that the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs shall commence hearings on the four petitions for the removal of commissioners of the IEBC from Thursday, November 24," the National Assembly said.
Another petitioner wants Chebukati and commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu removed on charges of gross violation of the law.
JLAC will hear the petition as well, even though the three retire in January.
