Kakamega woman rep reelected in landslide vote

She thanked the people for electing her again, she defeated seven rivals

Kakamega Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda has been overwhelmingly reelected for a second term.

Muhanda, who ran on an ODM ticket, won a landslide 300,426 votes against her closet contender, Naomi Shiyonga, who managed 67,351 votes. There were six other contenders.

Shiyonga was a nominated ODM senator in the last Parliament but in this election, she ran on a DAP-K ticket after a falling out with ODM.

Others who trailed them included Hadija Nganyi of UDA who garnered 64,128 votes, followed by Consolata Lusweti of ANC with 26,044 votes,,

Also, former radio presenter Lydia Inyangala won 20,245 votes, Loice Agoi (Kanu) 13,156 votes and Ayuma Musawa with 6,427 votes.

The total votes cast in the Kakamega woman rep race were 497,770 votes.

"I thank the people of Kakamega for electing me for a second time. I appreciate my worthy opponents who put up a good fight and motivated me to work harder," Muhanda said.

"I promise the people of Kakamega I will double my efforts in services for the people of this great county," she said.

Muhanda extended an olive branch to her competitors, saying she was ready to work with each one in the interests of uplifting the people of the county.

Voters elected 10 MPs on the Azimio-One Kenya ticket.
