Ipoa probes three police officers over misconduct during polls

Ipoa has launched investigations on three allegations of misconduct involving police officers during the election period.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority chairperson Ann Makori said they are investigating an incident where police allegedly shot two men and assaulted a woman in Eldas, Wajir.

Makori was speaking on Saturday when she issued the statement. She said that all the victims in the incident sustained fatal injuries.

"We are also investigating an alleged rape attempt on August 10, 2022, by a police officer at Matisi police station in Bungoma county," Makori said.

Makori said they are also probing a shooting incident allegedly involving police and a candidate’s bodyguard in Uasin Gishu on August 8.

Ipoa had dispatched 250 police to monitor security operations during the elections.

The agency will also continue to observe how the police manage crowds, maintain security and order during this election period.
