Ex-MP Lekuton bounces back, wins Laisamis seat

Lekuton beat seven opponents after garnering 6,157 votes to win the seat

Former Laisamis MP Joseph Lekuton has made a grand return by winning back the seat after 10 years in the cold.

Lekuton of UDM beat seven opponents after garnering 6,157 votes to win the seat. His closest challenger Musa Arbelle got 5,856 votes.

Arbelle was defending the seat on the UPIA party ticket. Lekuton ran on the UDM party ticket.

Other contestants were Lechet Timado of Wiper who got 4,341 while Peter Lkayo of ODM polled 2097.

Elizabeth Pantoren of PNU got 1,792 votes, Stephen Labarakwe (ANC) had 1,553 and Francis Lesilau of Kanu garnered 793 votes.

Former Marsabit county speaker Mathew Loltome got 511 votes.

Arbelle was elected in 2017. He failed to defend the seat after just one term.

While addressing citizens after he was handed the certificate, Lekuton thanked voters for giving him an opportunity to serve them again.

"I will never let you down," he said.

Laisamis constituency has 33,446 registered voters. A total of 23,112 cast their ballots during the August 9 election.

In Moyale, Prof Guyo Wako won the MP seat on the UPIA party ticket while Dido Raso retained his Saku MP seat. 

Wario Guyo won in North Horr.
