Outgoing Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has conceded defeat and congratulated Democratic Action Party’s  Patrick Simiyu Barasa before IEBC announced the results.

The Chama Jubilee Party Deputy Secretary General stated that he had decided to support his opponent to realize development for the residents of the cosmopolitan constituency.

The development brings the curtain down on Kutuny’s long political career and he will be remembered as one of Deputy President William Ruto's fiery critics.

Kutuny lost his seat to Wesley Kipchumba Korir during the 2013 general election only to recapture it during the 2017 election.

He is among the big political bigwigs who have lost this year’s election.

The provisional results which are streaming from polling stations across the constituency have indicated that Patrick Simiyu Barasa is leading.

While the outcome of the member of parliament’s poll remains a priority, other candidates who were vying alongside Kutuny are yet to concede defeat.

"We may not have been able to do everything but no doubt we gave our best to ensure the transformation of our great constituency. Let us give the incoming member of Parliament total support," Kuttuny stated.

He, however, hinted that he would be in the race in future polls.

Simiyu, a senior former detective who is also the Democratic Action Party County secretary, has been vying for the Cherangany Parliamentary seat since 2013.
