Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria was Tuesday arrested over alleged assault at a polling station.

Nakuru County Police Commander Peter Mwanzo said the MP assaulted and injured a voter at a polling station in his constituency.

He said Gikaria was arrested at the Naka Primary School polling station following a commotion that attracted police attention.

“There are claims he injured a voter and caused commotion and disturbance at the polling station,” Mwanzo said.

He said the assaulted voter was hospitalised after sustaining injuries in his head.

Gikaria’s supporters said he was held at the Nakuru Central Police Station and is likely to be detained there pending bail negotiations.

The legislator is not new to controversy in the town.

In June, 2022 the MP was questioned by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru over his suspected links with a criminal gang.

Back in 2020, he was also arrested over matatu protests.
