In a proud moment for both her native Kenya and her adopted home, Silvia Jemutai, originally from Kopsiya, Poror in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, made history — she was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army during a ceremony on November 14, 2025, at Fort Lee, Virginia.
Jemutai’s journey begins in a rural part of Kenya. She hails from Kopsiya, Poror, a community in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County. Her upbringing in this tight-knit community shaped her resilience, ambition, and service-oriented spirit.
She has often spoken about the influence of her mother, Jacqueline Alice Kirui, whom she described as a “trailblazer … a woman of courage, strength and vision.”
