FALSE: A snake did not interrupt Raila's Kasarani rally

A Facebook post claiming that a snake interrupted Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga’s final rally at Kasarani Stadium is FALSE.

The social media post emerged at a time when the rally was on course at the stadium.

Also shared by the social media account is an alleged image of a snake and people in a commotion of sorts, seemingly to insinuate the standoff that was at Kasarani.

Fact-checker has assessed the report and can authoritatively say it is fake and misleading.

First, this writer followed the Kasarani event from the start to the end and at no time was it interrupted by a snake.

Secondly, the image shared of a snake was taken in 2014 and not on Saturday, August 6,  2022, a search by Google Lens has shown.

Fact-checker has established that the snake was spotted on the 14th hole at the Southern Valley Golf Course in Thong Lane, Graveside, in the United Kingdom and not anywhere in Kenya, according to Kent online news site.

Also, the image alleged to be that of people scampering for safety was taken on May 11, 2020, and not August 6, as claimed by social media. Media page, a search of the image with Google Lens shows

The fact checker has also established the image was first published by the National Public Radio website, an American privately and publicly funded non-profit media organization, which indicates that it was taken by Khali Senosi In kibera Nairobi County.

The stampede was occasioned by the limited distribution of food aid in the area which led people to fight for the available few.

The Star Newspaper has looked into a Facebook post claiming that a snake interrupted Raila’s Kasarani rally and finds it to be FALSE.
