The rumours being spread on social media that National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi is sick have been flagged as fake news.
The propaganda started on Thursday morning when Muturi responded to questions from Kenyans on Twitter on his plans to better lives of citizens as he aspires to be the fifth president.
According to the false information, Muturi was rushed to the MP Shah Hospital in an NMS ambulance.
The fake news was started by a blogger.
Parliament dismissed the propaganda, saying that the Speaker was fit.
“This is fake news, such an unfortunate rumour. The Speaker JB Muturi is as fit as a fiddle,” the National Assembly said in a Twitter post.
Fact-checker has confirmed that on the same day, Muturi attended the National Assembly proceedings, where he presided over the afternoon’s sitting.
Muturi is among the candidates who have publicly declared interest in the presidential seat in 2022.
The speaker relinquished several international parliamentary positions he currently holds to concentrate on his presidential bid.
Muturi was endorsed as the Mt Kenya spokesperson following a coronation by elders at Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga shrine in Murang’a county, in May 2021.
He announced that he will use the Democratic Party of Kenya as his vehicle to State House next year.
