A viral video claiming former U.S President Barack Obama has endorsed DP William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid is doctored.

The 36-second video widely shared on Facebook and WhatsApp shows a host welcoming Obama and artist Kehinde Wiley to unveil a portrait.

The portrait is concealed with a cloth and upon uncovering, shows a picture of Deputy President William Ruto.

The caption reads “Barack Obama unveils his final presidential candidate endorsement in Kenya,”

The Star investigated the claim and authenticity of the video and has found it to be doctored.

The original version of the video found on BBC's youtube channel and the Obama Foundation website was taken in February 2018 in an event of the unveiling of two portraits: one was that of Barack Obama and the second was that of his wife Michelle Obama.

The painting hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.

Both Obama and Michelle attended the event.

The Obama portrait was done by visual artist Kehinde Wiley.

In the original version, the BBC's blocky logo icon is on the left of the video while in the doctored version, the icon appears on the right.

Also noteworthy is that the image of DP Ruto on the unveiled portrait is not a painting but a mugshot photo.

The background colour of the caption appears to be of a different red shade, a variation of the deep red used by the BBC while the original video does not have a caption.

The Star’s investigation into the claim and authenticity of the video has found it to be Fake and doctored.
