A viral photo with a woman dangerously crossing a river with a baby on her back claiming to be in Kenya is false.

The photo was posted on twitter by Jacob Kelly  https://twitter.com/i/status/1308625734743789568 saying the incident had happened in Nandi.

“This is Nandi, the home of DP William Ruto arap Kimwarer. A woman carrying a newborn is just an eyelid away from disaster but she isn't eligible for 4 Ruto's Handouts (stolen Taxpayers money) because her VOTE to Ruto as a Kalenjin is guaranteed. Now tell me why LUOS are trending,” he posted on the photo.

Deputy President William Ruto’s spokesman Dennis Itumbi https://twitter.com/OleItumbi/status/1308687156030910464hit back at the user telling them that some outright lies needed research. 

Our fact check teams established that the incident did not happen in Kenya.

Using google verification tools, we established that the incident happened in Kigali, Rwanda in 2016 during the floods that claimed over 50 lives.

The photo was first used by Aljazeera four years ago when they reported at least 49 people had been killed after heavy rain caused widespread flooding across parts of Rwanda.

The photo was then picked by Rwanda’s local radio station Radio Itahuka https://www.facebook.com/246169068788327/posts/vision-2050-singapore-of-africa-iyo-bakoresha-umutungo-wa-rubanda-bubaka-imihand/1074521749286384/

We also established the photo is archived among the photos showing how the deadly floods had left thousands homeless.
