Education Cabinet secretary George Magoha would be shocked if he visited a girls' school of second-tier status in Kisii. The school has done the incredible and admitted 1,200 students to Form 1 in 13 streams. It now has in excess of 6,500 students. Sadly, it has overstretched facilities, with learners queuing for almost everything. A near stampede almost cost innocent students their lives two weeks ago. The situation is worse. Students have to even line up to answer the call of nature. Those in the know say a disaster could be looming if no urgent intervention is taken.

There could be big trouble and looming disintegration of an infant political grouping. Those in the know cite a trust deficit in the outfit. All its leaders are nursing dreams of a big political office but none is ready to back off. Worse still, they have concluded that one of them is up to no good. He is said to be overly ambitious and seems to have his politics driven by vendetta rather than the ultimate price.

A cartel in the lands sector in Mombasa and Nairobi, in collusion with county officials in the lands department of one of the coastal counties, is on a massive land-grab spree, targeting parcels allocated procedurally. The takeover game is choreographed by a sitting governor through his proxies and coordinated by 12 high-ranking officials in Mombasa and Nairobi. The plot is to first scuttle particular landowners to prepare the ground to oust the big boys after 2022. The preferred method of seizing the property is to use mob tactics after the ongoing poisoning of minds is done. The governor in question is pretending not to be the main agitator of the illegal takeover.

A senior official of a county government who was elevated to an undeserved job group while serving as overall director of a strategic department has panicked. The man, who is said to have acquired immense wealth during his tenure, was allegedly favoured in a sham promotion exercise during the tenure of a former governor. With the new governor moving in to clear the mess and restore order on the payroll, the official, who was transferred to a directorate in one of the ministries, could be the next target. There are reports the current administration could seek the services of state agencies to unmask the man.
