The Nairobi Regeneration Team is busy with beautification and removing illegal structures.  City Hall's Inspectorate department, on the other hand, is allowing construction of shanties that might soon turn Buruburu Phase I into a slum. They first started putting up shops right in the middle of the road near a place known as Neighbours. Just recently another person has been systematically erecting a mabati house. Could City Hall officials in charge of Embakasi West subcounty be asleep on the job, or are they part of the mess? In any case, senior government officials have set a bad example by grabbing road reserves and developing them. And then allocating them to their cronies.

A Jubilee governor who has enjoyed a good working relationship with his MCAs since he was elected is an anxious man. The ward representatives have turned against him after he refused to share the loot he recently received from a group of wealthy businessmen for nominating one of their own to his government. The county boss, according to an insider, received Sh7 million from the group. The MCAs demanded a slice of the money but the governor vehemently refused and told the county legislators to go to hell. The furious ward representatives have now pledged to frustrate the governor and his administration.

A first-term MP from Nyanza has shocked his aides and left them wondering why he has suddenly developed a soft spot for female journalists in the region. The legislator, the aides say, has gone to the extent of buying the journalists perfumes and undergarments. Last week, he sent his bodyguard with a sealed bag of goodies to two women who had just covered his event in his constituency.

A Jubilee politician from Central Kenya is in trouble. He has been pocketing thousands of notes from some quarters as tokens of appreciation for attending meetings of a top Jubilee leader. The siege is being laid by his neighbour, an MP from his own backyard. The Jubilee honcho was until recently a member of an informal political grouping. However, he appears to have developed cold feet. He is now under pressure to resurface from his political hideout and attend the meetings — or be smoked out. One of the MPs from the region and a late recruit to the group has threatened to spill the beans on how the vocal MP has been spying in their boss's meetings in return for money from a senior Jubilee operative.
