Court stops freezing of Nairobi county accounts

The Nairobi government got a reprieve after the High Court enjoined the Kenya Revenue Authority from freezing Sh4.5 billion in City Hall accounts. 

Through lawyer Cecil Miller, the county obtained orders after filing an application under a certificate of urgency. The application was heard by Justice Pauline Nyamweya.


Man threatens to leave wife in hospital over Sh2m bill

A Ruiru man has threatened to leave his wife and remarry if a community hospital does not release her despite a Sh2 million bill.

John Gitonga accuses the hospital in Kasarani of deliberately worsening his wife Esther Wanyoike's condition to extend her stay and inflate the bill.

 


Former refugee uses education to uplift next generation in S Sudan

High temperatures, soaring to highs of 33 degrees Celsius (over 90F) in the afternoon hours, do not deter these three- to 14-year-olds.

They stay in their tin-roofed classrooms, which are smoking hot in the sweltering heat but still a better deal than staying home all day.

 


Kamworor, Jepkosgei win New York Marathon titles

Kenyan half marathon world record holders Geoffrey Kamworor and Joyciline Jepkosgei powered to victories in the New York City Marathon on Sunday.

Kamworor reclaimed the New York title he won in 2017 in two hours eight minutes and 13 seconds and Jepkosgei surprised four-time champion Mary Keitany, winning her marathon debut in 2:22:38.
