President Uhuru Kenyatta will not campaign for Jubilee's Macdonald Mariga in Kibra.

People close to the President said he "has more pressing national issues to attend to and there were no plans for him to campaign in Kibra".

 

"That is not in his plan. The President is focused on the Big Four Agenda," a senior official at Harambee House said.

Courts gags DCI, media from commenting on Cohen case

The court has barred the Directorate of Criminal Investigations from and victim's defense from addressing the media regarding the murder of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen.

Milimani Court's Justice Jessie Lessit ruled that the media should only report what transpires in court.

Sarah Wairimu on Monday appeared before Milimani law courts with her lawyer Phillip Murgor seeking a bail application arguing that his client has been in custody for close to 20 days.


CBK puts banks on alert over money launders ahead of September 30 D-Day

Central Bank of Kenya wants commercial banks to be extra vigilant to prevent the depositing of illicit finances ahead of old Sh1000 end-use on September 30.

 

In a circular by the CBK’s Banking Supervision Department on Friday, the regulator warned that it would take action against any commercial bank that fails to, neglects or omits to comply with relevant regulations.


Grade 3 assessment starts under competency-based curriculum

A precedent-setting assessment of Grade 3 learners started on Monday under the new Competency-Based Curriculum. 

The assessment, spearheaded by the Kenya National Examinations Council, will inform how well the learners can read, write and count after their first three years of primary education.

Teachers are required to monitor the attitude and character of the 1.3 million learners.


Granny's 20-year toil to make nature park out of tree farm

A 73-year-old German woman has fulfilled a dream of setting up a nature park in Malindi, Kilifi county, after over 20 years of conserving indigenous trees. 

Silvia Pirelli, an international artist, has finally achieved her objective on 20 acres in Kwa Upanga along the Malindi-Tsavo road.

She bought the land in absentia and fell in love with it after her first night camping there. That is when she decided to conserve the 20 acres with a view to ensuring nature is protected and the environment conserved. She named the area Lmagiro farm. Lmagiro means eagle in Samburu.


CEOs in Africa skeptical of revenue growth this year

African business leaders are less optimistic about the strength of the global economy and their organisations’ ability to grow revenues in both short and medium-term than they were a year ago.

At least 25 per cent of chief executive officers in the continent believe that the global economy will decline over the next 12 months.

These are some of the key findings from the 7th edition of PwC’s Africa Business Agenda 2019 report to be launched in Kenya today.
