Deputy President William Ruto has said the quest for constitutional change by one person should not derail development needs of Kenyans.

He noted that the country should be spared of the constitutional drama.

 

Ruto on Sunday asked the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) to pursue the individual, and ask him the changes he requires in the document instead of railroading Kenyans who had other important needs.

“BBI should ask him what he needs changed in the Constitution for him to accept the outcome of elections,” said Ruto.

Joho faulted over pending bills, misplaced funds

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was on Friday asked to explain huge pending bills and why some amounts of money collected by the county government was being spent at the source.

In the 2017-2018 Financial Year, according to the Auditor General, Joho’s administration has Sh3.7 billion as total pending bills, but Mombasa County government submitted a figure of Sh5.3 billion.

The Auditor General said only Sh3.5 billion, out of the total Sh5.3 billion was eligible.


Church turns into battle field as Tangatanga and Kieleweke groups clash

There was drama at a church in Kiharu constituency on Sunday after area MP Ndindi Nyoro,  a Tangatanga member, clashed with the Kieleweke team.

 

The drama started after nominated MP Maina Kamanda, who was the chief guest, invited Ndindi to address the church.

After outlining his development projects, Ndindi declined to hand over the microphone back to Kamanda, insisting that as the area MP, it was his role to invite the leaders who had attended the church.


KRA banks on automation to weed out frauds

The agency collected Sh1.58 trillion for the year, missing collection target by Sh25 billion.

He is banking on high tech surveillance and automation investments at the agency to grow custom revenues by over Sh110 billion to hit Sh610 billion and more economic dividends through effective trade facilitation this financial year.

Even so, he admits that it won’t be a walk in the park.

He said that criminal elements that have been riding on largely mechanical operations in cargo movement and cross border trade are fighting back.

 


17 governors to be summoned over corruption, says Mudavadi

bout 17 current and former governors are to be probed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Director of Public Prosecutions over corruption.

 The revelation was made yesterday by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi. Without naming names, their administrations are mired in graft scandals. He said some of them still preside over corruption without knowing they are on the DCI radar. 


Diaspora remittance for July drop 32% as tax regime resumes

The flow of money into the country from Kenyans living and working abroad dropped in July compared to June after the return of taxable money stashed outside the country.

The  Central Bank of Kenya weekly bulletin shows diaspora remittance for July stood at $224 million (Sh23.07 billion) compared to $295 million (Sh30.3 billion) in June, signaling a 31.6 per cent drop.
