Good morning,

A section of Rift Valley leaders wants evictees from the Mau Forest re-settled in the Kenyatta family land.

The MPs, mostly allied to Deputy President William Ruto also warned that the looming eviction could be the last straw in the Jubilee political marriage.

In a fresh twist to the plans to flush out illegal settlers in the 46,000-acre forest complex, the MPs asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to lead from the front and offer an alternative settlement.

I’m not Ruto’s project, Mariga says as he gets Jubilee ticket

Former Harambee Stars player McDonald Mariga will fly Jubilee Party's flag in the Kibra by-election.

The announcement was made yesterday even as he dismissed claims of a ‘hidden hand’ in his move to contest. The poll is set for November 7.

The footballer said he made the decision to try his hand in politics after thorough soul-searching and consultation with his family.

“That's my decision and I'm not being pushed by anyone. There is no influence. I decided, together with the family, that I try it,” he said.

We cycled to Mecca to help the poor

Why would anyone bicycle for 45 days from Nairobi to Mecca to perform the Hajj?

Four Nairobi men decided they would do it — 'Pedal to Hajj' — to help needy children at the Al Furaqan Training Institute in Namanga, Kajiado.

And to fulfil one of their five pillars of Islam.

And it hadn't been done before, at least not for charity, they say.

Invest in food safety to penetrate global market, urges Ruto

Deputy President William Ruto has called for increased funding to programmes geared towards enhancing food safety.

Apart from threatening thousands of lives every year, the DP noted that unsafe food hinders trade regionally and internationally.

He said it has become necessary to invest in food laboratories and enhance surveillance and monitoring through the adoption of new technologies and innovations.

Don’t judge a woman by her motherhood — Millie Odhiambo

Do you wake up every morning nursing the pain and stigma of childlessness?

In a social set up where childbearing means so much to so many people, childlessness or inability to conceive is widely stigmatised, leading to the collapse of many marriages besides affecting self-esteem.

In fact, for many women and men, inability to get their own children is such a sensitive subject that they shed tears in their closets when a joke about it is taken too far, or when a question that is insensitively phrased is thrown at them.

KCB gets approval to take over National Bank

Central Bank of Kenya has approved the takeover of National Bank of Kenya (NBK), setting the stage for final approvals on the deal.

In April, KCB Group Plc declared its intention acquire 100 per cent stake of National Bank of Kenya through a share swap deal, comprising 10 ordinary shares of NBK for every one ordinary share of KCB.
