Meru Senator Mithika Linturi and six MPs on Friday failed to attend Interior CS Fred Matiang'i's meeting in Meru county.
The legislators said they were kept in the dark about the CS's visit.
The MPs are John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South) Rahim Dawood (North Imenti) Kubai Kiringo (Igembe Central), Maoka Maore (Igembe North), Kathuri Murungi (Imenti South) and Josphat Gichunge (Tigania East).
“Members of Parliament, out of their fidelity to the people of Meru, postponed their engagements to attend today's meeting," said Linturi, who is the chairman of Meru Parliamentarian Association.
"We were told that the meeting was supposed to start at 11am at the county commissioner’s office. We were at the residence at the exact time but as we issue this statement it's already 2pm.
"We do not expect someone who holds such an office not to respect time. It's better if we were told the meeting would not take place or would be late because of unavoidable circumstances."
Matiang'i arrived at the county commissioner's office a few minutes to 11am.
He was accompanied by Youth and Gender CS Margaret Kobia, National Youth Service director general Matilda Sakwa and Interior PS Karanja Kibicho, among others.
He then visited the governor's office and left for a function in Kiirua, Buuri constituency, where he gave out cheques to women and youth.
A source said Matiang'i might have slept in Meru and was held up in a meeting with Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
“We know it was a national function, but he did not tell MPs what he was going to do. We treat this act as a serious contempt to the people of Meru and it is not something we are going to take lightly. If Matiang'i wants to engage the public in Meru, he should engage their leaders,” Linturi said.
He said some parts of Meru have had serious security issues and Matiang'i should have met MPs privately.
“We feel his coming to Meru has not adequately addressed the issues legislators would have wanted addressed,” Linturi said.
Igembe Central's Kiringo said, “We were only invited to the meeting but we were not given any itinerary. We had organised as legislators to give out our grievances especially on security but maybe the programme was changed without our knowledge.
"We do not have any problem with the CS but we want to express our disappointment because we have been kept off his programme."
Imenti South's Kathuri urged county commissioner Allan Machari and the governor to improve on organisation of such events.
