The Ministry of Health has announced the death of Doctor Hamisi Ali Juma in Cuba.
Juma was one of the 50 doctors sent to Cuba under government sponsorship to study family medicine in the framework of the memorandum of understanding between Kenya and the Caribbean nation.
The medic died on Sunday, according the ministry's statement posted on Twitter.
The circumstances of his death remain unknown and the matter is currently under investigation by Cuban authorities.
The deceased doctor was a brother of Likoni MP Mishi Mboko. MoH is in the process of transporting Juma's body back to Kenya.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased and provide assurance that plans are already in place to transport the body back to Kenya within the shortest time possible. Our Kenyan embassy in Havana is working closely with the Cuban authorities handling this case,” the statement said.
