The Ngulia sanctuary was originally
established in 1986, spanning just three square kilometres and
hosting only three rhinos.
It has since undergone three major
expansions, in 1987, 1990, and 2007, gradually increasing the rhino
population to six, 19, and 65 respectively.
Today, the sanctuary is twice
the size of the Maasai Mara National Reserve and three times larger
than Meru National Park,
making it one of the most significant wildlife conservation zones in
the region.

Kanga added that KWS has
strengthened ranger infrastructure, upgraded the internal road
network for both tourism and security operations, and constructed 10
strategic observation points.
The agency has also deployed
drones
to enhance monitoring and surveillance across the sanctuary.
