A police officer was stabbed and killed during an operation to arrest murder suspects in Matisi area, Kitale’s Trans Nzoia county.

Police confirmed the victim was stabbed in the neck by an assailant who approached him during the Friday night incident.

Five police officers were pursuing a wanted murder suspect in the area on Friday night when the drama turned tragic, leaving Constable Patrick Ouma with fatal stab wounds in the neck.

Police said the team encountered a group of young men, leading to the confrontation.

Ouma was stabbed in the neck and later rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was moved to the mortuary pending other procedures.

According to the police, 23 suspects were later arrested in a swoop staged following the attack. It is not clear if the assailant was among those arrested.

The police officers had to shoot into the air in the drama to make the arrests amid tensions. His colleagues described him as a hardworking officer who was dedicated to his work.

Meanwhile, the bodies of three men who had drowned in the Lusumu River in Butere, Kakamega County were retrieved on Friday after days of search.

Police identified the three as Vincent Ritokho, 19, David Amboye, 19, and Jacob Mutindo, 24. Police said they are investigating the incident that happened on December 3.

The local divers managed to retrieve the bodies on Friday before police moved them to the mortuary.

In Nalondo, Bungoma County, 89-year-old Lauria Nabalayo Makokha was found drowned in a family borehole.

She had taken supper before she left home and later drowned in the borehole, her family said.

The family said she told them she was going out for a short call. She took long time to return when they decided to search for her. The body was found in the borehole and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

The borehole was uncovered. It’s not clear what happened to lead to her death.

Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident where a man collapsed and died in a bar in Transmara, Narok County.

According to the police, Lawrence Leperes, 35, was having drinks in the bar when he collapsed and died.

A friend who had been at the joint escaped. Two attendants at the bar were detained pending investigations as the body was moved to the mortuary following the Friday incident.

In Musoli, Kakamega County, a woman was found dead after a suspected murder in her house.

The body of one Mercela Khayenje, 63, was found naked on her bed after an attack.

She also had injuries on her mouth. The woman had just arrived home when she was attacked and killed.

No arrests were made by Saturday following her murder. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
