Since 2018, the Star has highlighted individuals, and occasionally groups, who have demonstrated extraordinary contributions to society. This year, the award seeks to honour those whose work has inspired, helped, or brought honour to Kenya.
The qualities organisers are looking for in nominees include:
i. A person who strives to make Kenya or their community a better place to live and work.
ii. A person who has greatly helped, inspired, or brought honour to the nation.
iii. A person who has invented a solution that has dramatically changed lives.
iv. A person of integrity, or an individual who has stood against impunity and promoted good governance.
v. Anybody who has helped alleviate poverty or is an environmental champion.

The nomination process is simple. Interested individuals can use a phone, desktop, or laptop to access the online form.
Nominators must provide the full name of their candidate, indicate if they belong to an organisation, and describe clearly why the person is deserving.
Specific achievements and impact should be highlighted. Supporting materials such as social media links, project pages, or work samples can also be submitted.
Nominators are encouraged to review all details carefully before submitting. There is no limit to the number of people one can nominate, making it possible to recognise multiple outstanding Kenyans.
