The Communications Authority of Kenya headquartersThe Communications Authority of Kenya has announced a call for ongoing university students to apply for internship attachments across 17 distinct departments to gain practical experience critical in the country’s ICT sector.
The internships, running for three months, are designed to equip students with hands-on skills and industry knowledge in ICT regulation.
Departments with open positions include Human Resources and Administration; Corporate Communications; Finance and Accounts; Supply Chain Management; Frequency and Spectrum Management; Compliance Enforcement; Monitoring, Inspection and Regional Coordination; Postal and Telcom Licensing; Information Technology; Cyber Security; Consumer Protection and Advocacy; Public Education and Awareness; Standard and Type Approval; Universal Service Fund; Research, Planning and Quality Management; Competition Management; and Legal Services.
Each department has clearly outlined qualifying areas of study.
Human Resources and Administration seeks students in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Management Studies.
Corporate Communications is open to those in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, Media Studies, or Communication Studies.
Finance and Accounts caters for those in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Economics or Business Administration, while Supply Chain Management is suitable for learners in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Business Administration.
Technical departments such as Frequency and Spectrum Management, Compliance Enforcement, and Monitoring, Inspection and Regional Coordination welcome applicants drawn from Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Radio Frequency Engineering, or Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Postal and Telcom Licensing requires backgrounds in Telecommunications, Communications Engineering, or Business Law.
Both the Information Technology and Cyber Security departments will consider students of Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Cybersecurity.
Consumer Protection and Advocacy is geared towards those pursuing Law, Consumer Protection, Public Policy, Sociology, Marketing or Communications, and Public Education and Awareness to those in Education, Public Relations, Community Development, or Media Studies.
Standard and Type Approval, as well as the Universal Service Fund, focus on Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, ICT, Development Studies, Public Policy, or Project Management.
Students of Statistics, Economics, Research Methodology, Business Administration or Quality Management can look to the Research, Planning and Quality Management department.
Competition Management suits candidates in Economics, Business Studies, Law, Public Policy or Regulatory Affairs, while Legal Services seeks those studying Legal Studies or Regulatory Affairs.
Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to qualify for these opportunities.
Applicants should be current students in a recognised university, with their area of study aligning with the department to which they are applying.
Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate a keen interest in gaining practical experience within a dynamic regulatory environment.

Each application must be accompanied by a one-page CV, a cover letter specifying the department of interest, and a letter from the institution confirming current enrolment and support for the attachment.
The deadline for all applications is November 21st at 5 pm.
The CA emphasised its commitment to fairness and inclusion for all applicants, stating, "Canvassing in any form or failure to attach any of the stipulated documents shall lead to automatic disqualification.”
CA director general said the authority is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified Kenyans including persons living with disabilities and those from marginalised communities, are encouraged to apply.
He, however, said that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews.
The attachment initiative promises to strengthen the practical skills of the next generation of ICT professionals, offering them a chance to work alongside seasoned industry professionals and contribute to the development of Kenya’s communications sector.
