Detectives are investigating an incident in which a one-and-a-half-year-old boy died after falling into a family borehole in Kituli village, Bungoma County.

According to police, the child was reported missing from his home before he was traced to an uncovered borehole, where he had drowned.

Western Region Police Commander Issa Mohamud said it was not immediately clear how the boy wandered to the site, adding that investigations are underway.

The body was retrieved and taken to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

The child’s parents told police he had been playing outside their home when he strayed to the neighbour’s compound, where the incident occurred on Wednesday evening.

In a separate case in Sacho village, Kapsokwony, Bungoma County, an 80-year-old woman was found dead in her house on Wednesday afternoon.

A neighbour who became concerned after failing to see her for most of the day went to check on her and found her body inside the house.

Police visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary. Investigations into the death are ongoing.

Elsewhere, detectives in Kisumu County are probing the killing of a scrap metal dealer whose decomposing body was discovered on a backstreet in Holo Market.

The man was identified as Rogers Shishiali, who had been working at a local scrap metal yard.

Police said the motive had not been established, and preliminary inquiries suggested he may have been killed elsewhere before the body was dumped.

The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, police in Kapletundo, Bomet County, arrested a suspect in connection with the July 23, 2025, death of Cyrus Kiplangat during an altercation.

The suspect was expected to be taken to court on Thursday as police sought permission to hold him for further investigations.

In Kilifi County, a man identified as Rashid Fodo, 43, died at Kilifi Hospital on Wednesday from injuries sustained on October 16 during an altercation with a group of people at a palm den in Gede, Watamu.

Police said they are treating the case as a suspected murder and are pursuing additional suspects.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.
