President William Ruto brought laughter to a public meeting in Makueni County on Wednesday during a light-hearted exchange with a local lawmaker.

The interaction occurred as Nguu-Masumba Ward MCA Daniel Musau thanked the President for a previous visit to Matutu in 2021 and reminded him of development commitments made at that time, including the construction of Mooni Bridge, provision of title deeds, and electricity connections for every household.

Musau noted that while some projects had begun, progress had been slow, and he urged the President to facilitate their completion.

“Your Excellency, you said every home at Nguu would be supplied with electricity. The connection process has started but is progressing slowly,” Musau said.

“My last request, Your Excellency, is that next February, please come to Matutu to issue the titles and open the bridge because I am your child here in Makueni.”

In response, President Ruto humorously addressed the relevant Cabinet Secretaries present at the meeting, including Alice Wahome (Lands) and Davis Chirchir (Roads).

“Alice, go and sort out the title deeds. Minister of Roads, allocate funds for the bridge so it can be completed by February for the official opening,” he said.

Turning to Musau, the President added with a smile, “But now you, MCA, come here to give me orders in a public meeting. Don’t you know I am the President of Kenya?” The remark drew laughter and applause from the crowd.

President William Ruto commenced his week-long tour of Ukambani tour on Wednesday, commissioning various projects in Makueni County.

Ruto who was accompanied by his Deputy Kithure Kindiki started off by opening the Kasikeu and Mikuyu Bridges and approach roads before launching the Emali-Ukia road in Kibwezi West.

He later issued 2,140 title deeds to residents of Kasikeu, resolving long-standing land ownership challenges in the region.

"We are implementing infrastructure development projects that meet the immediate needs of our citizens, unlocking the economic potential of our rural communities, and driving inclusive growth from the bottom up," he said.

"Our goal is to ensure that every part of our country, including Makueni County where development has lagged behind for far too long, is not left behind as we work to transform Kenya into a prosperous nation."
