Detectives are investigating an
incident where a 74-year-old woman was found dead after a domestic fight with
her husband in Githurai 44, Nairobi.
The body of Monica Wanja was at the weekend
found lying in a pool of blood after she had fought with her husband over
unclear reasons.
Neighbours reported they heard
commotion and when police arrived at the scene they found the woman lying in a pool
of blood with multiple injuries in the right thigh, left breast, right wrist,
chin and right upper arm.
Police said they found a bloodied dagger
in the house and kept it as an exhibit.
The husband, who police
said is aged about 75, was arrested over the murder for interrogation and
possible arraignment.
The body of the elderly
woman was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
In Donholm area, Nairobi,
a middle-aged woman was found dead in her house.
Police identified the
woman as Eunice Mwende Mbaluka. She stayed alone at the time of her death.
The cause of the
death was not immediately established, police said as they moved the body to the
mortuary.
Elsewhere, two
herders were shot and wounded in Isiolo and Meru counties. The incidents
happened when cattle rustlers struck the areas, police said.
The victims were rushed to the hospitals and admitted in stable condition. Police said security teams responded to the scenes and managed to recover some of the stolen animals.
The hunt for the attackers is ongoing.
Police said some of the
rustlers escaped with bullet wounds.
Cases of cattle rustling
have been persistent amid police operations to address the trend.
Most of the stolen animals are sold elsewhere as meat.
The government has launched a programme to
address the menace. This includes deradicalisation process on some of the gunmen
involved which has seen more than 500 assorted guns surrendered in some areas.
For instance, Isiolo is among those under Operation Maliza Uhalifu aimed at dealing with bandits.
The operation has managed to contain crime in the area and other counties amid persistence.
The operation targets Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit, Meru and Isiolo counties.
Besides retributive reaction, strategic investment and sustainable development have also taken a prominent place among the government’s planned crime control interventions for Kenya’s Northern frontier and the Kerio Valley belt.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the long-term vision is to empower the communities to actively take part in the war against animal rustling and undertake legitimate nation-building activities.
He said plans to distribute subsidized agricultural inputs and extension services to area residents in a bid to revive farming activities as a source of livelihood.
Murkomen ordered fresh vetting for all National Police Reservists (NPRs) as part of efforts to bolster the operations.
He said there are plans to distribute subsidized agricultural inputs and extension services to area residents in a bid to revive farming activities as a source of livelihood.
