The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union now says that together with other workers' unions, they will stand against unjust burdens placed on workers.

KMPDU said that as workers, all they are asking for is for the state to balance its needs with the rights of public servants.

"Together, we stand against unjust burdens placed upon workers. We advocate for equitable solutions that balance the needs of the government with the rights of its dedicated public servants," the doctors said.

The doctor's union statement comes a day after Public Service workers held peaceful protests in Nairobi.

"Our peaceful procession symbolizes our unwavering commitment to fighting for workers' rights and holding those in power accountable. Now, more than ever, it is crucial for all stakeholders to come together in meaningful dialogue and find sustainable resolutions," they said.

During the peaceful protest, the workers' unions presented petitions addressing their concerns to Parliament.

Among the issues raised by workers include, the proposed 3 per cent housing levy, National Health Insurance Fund increase, and other tax hikes proposed in the Finance Bill, 2023.

According to KMPDU, the peaceful protests aimed to protect the rights and welfare of hardworking public sector employees.

"We marched to ensure that the voices of workers are heard loud and clear. The proposed housing levy and tax increases have a significant impact on our members, their families, and their livelihoods," the doctors' union said.

"We demand fair and transparent decision-making processes that consider the well-being of the workforce."

Public Servants were drawn from the Kenya National Union of Teachers, Kenya Universities Staff Union, Universities Academic Staff Union, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union and Kenya Union Of Domestic Hotels Educational Institutions Hospitals and Allied Workers among others.
