Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Guyo has called on civil societies to stop being used to oppose the nomination of Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).

Speaking to the Star on Tuesday, Guyo said that the organization should stop malice in an attempt to malign Haji's reputation.

Wading into the issue of Haji being used by big guns to drop cases, the Governor said it was not the work of the DPP to convict.

"Malice campaign against Haji cannot work because he has been up to the task in his duties as the DPP. The issue of conviction is the work of the court and not the DPP," Guyo said.

Last week, a section of Civil Society groups in Kenya opposed the move by President William Ruto to nominate Haji as the DG of NIS.

Transparency International Kenya (TIK) Executive Director Sheila Masinde said the civil organisation spent the last eight months looking at cases that were being dropped.

However, the Isiolo county boss praised Haji, saying that he was a career civil servant who has risen up the ladder and remained consistent in service.

Guyo also took the opportunity to thank President Ruto for appointing Haji to such a key docket, demonstrating his trust in the DPP

On March 16, 2023, President  Ruto nominated Haji as the new Director General of the National Intelligence Service.

If approved by Parliament, Haji will return to NIS after 6 years of serving as DPP.

Before being the DPP, he served as Deputy Director of the Counter Organised Crime Unit within the National Intelligence Service.
