A man in Britain has been awarded a seven-figure sum of money as compensation for sustaining injuries after hitting a pothole.
GRM Daily news website reports that the payout is believed to be one of the largest ever awarded for a pothole-related incident in Britain.
It said the unnamed driver was awarded £1,188,565.25 (Sh204,157,448.52) by the Welsh government in the landmark ruling after a four-year legal battle.
The news site further said a recent Freedom of Information Act request revealed that dozens of people have filed claims for vehicle damage or personal injuries resulting from potholes over the past five years.
Of these, the Welsh government has settled 11 claims and an additional two claims for personal injuries over that period.
The high-profile case, the site said, has drawn attention to the dire state of the country's roads, with a leading pothole campaigner urging individuals living in areas with numerous potholes to report them promptly.
"I am sick to death of hearing from government and authorities saying repairing potholes is a priority then do very little to tackle the issue of our failing roads network," Mark Morrell told GRM Daily.
The local authority, Powys County Council, acknowledged the poor state of roads saying road inspection conducted in April identified some minor maintenance defects and pledged to fix them as soon as resources are available.
