Raila Odinga's Azimio coalition has formally kicked out nominated MP Sabina Chege as deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly.

In its parliamentary group meeting on Tuesday, the coalition replaced Chege with Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje.

National Assembly speaker Moses Wetang'ula had earlier declined to confirm Chege's removal without a replacement and therefore asked Azimio to provide a fresh name.

"Hon. Mwenje takes over from Sabina Chege with immediate effect," said Minority leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi.

Chege was kicked out because of her shift in loyalty to President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza government.

She was recently installed as the party leader of the Jubilee party by a faction that is disloyal to Uhuru.

Sabina is among over 20 Jubilee MPs who declared allegiance to President William Ruto.

Having campaigned for Raila's presidency, the 'rebel' camp jumped ship after meeting President Ruto at State House during which they agreed to work together.
