Kenyans have urged to give their views on plans to add extra lanes on the Nairobi expressway.

On Monday, Moja Expressway company shared an online questionnaire for Kenyans to give their views on the plans to add lanes on the 27.1 km road.

"Centric Africa, a firm of registered experts, has been commissioned to carry out the Environmental & Social Impact Assessment. The purpose of this Questionnaire is to obtain your views and suggestions as one of the identified key interest groups," the company said in a statement.

Last week, the government through the Kenya National Highways Authority identified the need to optimize and upgrade some of the toll stations on the  Nairobi Expressway.

"These upgrades will involve the addition of extra lanes and construction of a new Haile Selassie toll station to facilitate the seamless flow of traffic into the CBD," Kenha said.

The 27-kilometre Expressway was constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for Sh88 billion.

The road has 11 tolling stations, 54 toll plazas, and 54 cameras along the  27km expressway, with 126 cameras inside the toll plazas.

The road is monitored with recordings being done at 30-minute intervals.

There’s a smart monitoring system that detects congestion, spillage, vehicle reversals, pedestrian crossing and emergencies.

The dual carriageway has 11 interchanges at Mlolongo, Standard Gauge Railway, JKIA, Eastern Bypass, Southern Bypass, Capital Centre, Haile Selassie Avenue, Museum Hill, Westlands, and James Gichuru Road.

The expressway, with 18.2km on the ground and 8.9km elevated, is a class A, four-lane dual carriageway with a design speed of 80km per hour.

The project is one of retired president Uhuru Kenyatta’s legacy.
